The Work Parent Sleep Family
Parenting can have it’s ups and downs, highs and lows, but in the end, we all know why we do it. It isn’t until your daughter is asked to her first prom and she comes home in tears of joy. or you watch your middle schooler help an elderly woman across the street that you realize changing all of those poopy diapers and cleaning up flung bits of corn and potatoes from the kitchen floor were worth it. I remember my mom once told me:
The days are long, but the years are short.
She is always telling me how quickly my brother and my childhood flew by. How she remembers building forts with the couches and blankets, chasing us around the yard with the water hose in the summer, and hiding our Easter baskets in the washer and dryer.
THE GREATEST HAPPINESS IS FAMILY HAPPINESS
We created Work Parent Sleep not because we had all the answers, but because we believed there is always a perspective to share. We really believe in the old African Cultural Proverb:
It takes a village to raise a child.
As parents, we all share a similar journey down exciting yet sometimes very different roles. From raising boys and girls to handling in-laws and pets, each of our experiences is different. But as a parent, I believe we should keep ourselves open to listening and learning more along the way.
I was speaking to one of my professors from high school some time back who now racks in an amazing 7 children and 5 grandchildren. I asked her “How did you do it? I’m sure after the second one it was a cake walk right?” She laughed and responded with a resounding “WRONG!” explaining how even with all of her kids now out of high school (with the last remaining in college!) she is still learning new things with their grandchildren. It came to my surprise some of the details she told about how each kid brought its own joys and challenges that would be new and took her to a place where even on the 6th and 7th kid she would think “What am I doing?!”
Our goal is to harness some of those great stories, great advice, and sometimes just the ear of the community for a frustrated mom or dad and create a family to help make our kids the best they can be! (And help us survive it along the way)
